Famous Box Hill cycle route

This 15 mile loop takes in the famous Zig Zag Road climb up Box Hill starting from south of Bookham high street.

  • Ride south crossing over Lower Shott into Dorking Road passing the playing fields on the left and then after leaving Bookham pass the stables on the left and then straight into Chapel Lane when the road dog legs to the right towards Polesden Lacey.
  • This narrow road starts to climb up towards Bagden Hill, once the road starts to descend care must be taken to control your speed as the road soon turns sharply left then right.
  • Once the road levels out continue along the road for a few miles passing through Westhumble and then to the A24 crossing by using the underpass on the left and then continue left towards Old London Road.
  • After passing Ryka’s Café turn left into Zig Zag Road and climb up to the café at the top and the view towards West Sussex.
  • Continue along Boxhill Road to the end and then turn left into Headley Common Road.
  • Follow the road past Headley Heath and then take the left into Leech Lane passing through the village until the road starts to descend then take the left into Lodgebottom Road.
  • Enjoy the descent on this quiet road as it carves its way back down to Old London Road then turn left at the junction to pass Ryka’s Café and then to the following the cycle path to the underpass and then back to Westhumble Street which becomes Chapel Lane.  Follow the road over the railway bridge and then back up to Bagden Hill and haul yourself up the climb and then back to the junction with Dorking Road turning right and returning to Bookham.
